I am an individual driven by a profound passion for empowering others to transcend the limitations imposed by disability and refusing to let it define their lives. Through my own personal journey living with a disability and overcoming adversity, I have developed a deep understanding of the transformative power of perseverance and resiliency.
With unwavering dedication, I devote myself to guiding and supporting individuals in breaking boundaries, unlocking their true potential, and embracing life to the fullest. Our greatest disability is often found between the ears. My mission is to inspire and help others to see beyond their disabilities and discover their true potential and capabilities. My Story
June 30th, 2013, at the age of 23, a diving accident resulted in a life-altering injury where I broke my neck (c5) and endured a harrowing experience of nearly drowning, leaving 85% of my body paralyzed. Faced with the reality of impending death, I was miraculously resuscitated on a beach by my dedicated coworkers.
Prior to this incident, I had been passionately serving my community as a firefighter/EMT, a role that granted me purpose by aiding others on their most difficult days. However, in an instant, my role reversed, and I became the one in need of assistance. Presently, I rely on the support of carestaff who attend to my daily and overnight needs, without whom my survival would be impossible.
Over the past decade, I have navigated a myriad of mental and emotional challenges, enduring chronic pain, neuropathy, PTSD, depression, anxiety, thoughts of suicide, and the debilitating effects of opioid addiction resulting from the prescribed pain medication. In the depths of despair, approximately five years ago, I stood at the precipice of surrender. Yet, as I gazed into the mirror, I found the strength to refrain from taking the easy way out. I chose to embrace life on that pivotal day.
Every morning since, I consciously commit to living each moment as if it were my last, focusing on the present and taking solace in the smallest victories. Amidst my personal journey, I yearned to discover my purpose anew. Seeking a means to help and contribute to others despite my physical limitations. I found my calling through motivational speaking, as an adaptive athlete, and by pursuing competitive archery.
What initially began as a mere hobby has blossomed into an impassioned pursuit, fueled by my dream to represent our great nation on an international platform as an adaptive athlete. Currently in my second year on the competitive circuit as a Para archer, I wholeheartedly invest myself in this endeavor. Throughout the coming year, I am scheduled to participate in national tournaments across various states, including AZ, FL, OH, PA, and CA. Additionally, I have the privilege of competing in three esteemed World Archery events: the Para World Championships in Pilsen, Czech Republic; the Pan-American Games in Santiago, Chile; and an anticipated shoot in Chicago. Archery, coupled with the opportunity to share my story and advocate for adaptive athletes, has profoundly transformed my existence. I have discovered my true purpose.
